Asset Maintenance Crew

Summary
The Asset Maintenance Crew is responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure within the Collection Systems Department. This position performs a variety of skilled activities to ensure the reliability, safety, and functionality of collection system assets. Working both independently and as part of a crew, the team member operates equipment, interprets maps and plans, and assists with other maintenance task. The role requires a strong commitment to workplace safety, quality workmanship, regulatory compliance, and customer service while helping maintain essential public utility services. Team members regularly work in outdoor environments and perform physically demanding tasks associated with underground utility operation and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer and stormwater collection system infrastructure.
- Maintain and inspect sewer pipes, storm pipes, manholes, and catch basins.
- Operate inspection and cleaning equipment, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Read and interpret maps, GIS data, construction drawings, blueprints, and work orders to complete assigned tasks.
- Conduct inspections of sewer system components and assist in identifying and resolving infrastructure issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections on vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Maintain compliance with Kentucky OSHA standards, SD1 rules and regulations, and established safety procedures.
- Assist with confined space entry operations when required and follow all associated safety protocols.
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, team members, contractors, vendors, and customers.
- Document work performed, equipment usage, materials utilized, and project activities.
- Support emergency response operations as needed.

Qualifications
A successful Crew Level employee demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing tasks, schedules, and work environments while maintaining performance standards and following established procedures. Candidates should communicate clearly, listen actively, and accurately follow instructions while completing basic forms, logs, and reports in a timely and accurate manner. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with additional vocational training or industry-related coursework preferred. Crew members must safely operate assigned equipment after training, possess a basic understanding of workplace tools, systems, and processes, and effectively use workplace technology, communication platforms, and simple operational systems. Experience in a relevant work environment or transferable skills from related roles is desirable, while prior hands-on industry experience is preferred. Formal leadership experience is not required; however, the ability to support peers informally and contribute positively to team success is valued. Employees must hold any required licenses or certifications for the role, with additional certifications such as a CDL with air brake endorsement, equipment-specific credentials, or advanced safety certifications considered an asset. Crew members are expected to perform routine operational tasks, support assigned project activities, demonstrate professionalism, maintain excellent attendance and reliability, and consistently adhere to all safety and compliance requirements. Certifications Education
The Crew Level position requires a high school diploma or GED, basic literacy and numeracy skills, and vocational or basic job-related training. Candidates should be capable of executing assigned tasks by following instructions and have some exposure to a workplace environment through school, volunteer work, internships, or similar experiences. Required skills include basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, familiarity with email and communication tools such as Outlook, experience with basic data entry systems including time clocks and simple applications, and the ability to operate equipment following appropriate training. Preferred certifications include OSHA 10 Basic Safety Certification, First Aid/CPR Certification, onboarding training completion, Six Sigma White Belt, Confined Space Entry Certification, Traffic Control/Flagger Certification, and Crane/Rigger Certifications.
Physical Demands
This position requires physical fieldwork responsibilities. Team members regularly use hand tools, power tools, machinery, heavy equipment, and computer systems to perform inspections, maintenance, repairs, and project-related tasks. The role requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and working in confined spaces. Employees must be capable of safely lifting and moving materials, equipment, or tools weighing up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is performed in outdoor environments and may involve exposure to wastewater, dirt, mud, grease, dust, fumes, varying weather conditions, and electrical hazards. Team members may work around moving mechanical equipment, construction zones, and loud machinery. The position requires the ability to adapt to changing work conditions, maintain situational awareness, and consistently follow safety procedures while performing physically demanding tasks.
