JOB SUMMARY

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of anesthesia services. This role includes patient assessment, anesthesia administration, monitoring, and post-anesthesia care in accordance with established clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements. This is a PRN (as-needed) opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care Coordination

  • Perform and document comprehensive pre-anesthesia evaluations and pain assessments
  • Review patient medications and medical history prior to procedures
  • Confirm completion of informed consent documentation
  • Verify pre- and post-operative instructions are communicated and understood
  • Administer anesthesia and provide sedation services per physician orders and clinic policies

Equipment, Supplies, and Environment

  • Ensure anesthesia equipment is available, functional, and safe prior to use
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock supplies as needed
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions promptly
  • Check medications and supplies for expiration dates

Patient and Staff Safety

  • Monitor and assess patients before, during, and after anesthesia
  • Maintain accurate records of anesthetics administered and patient responses
  • Initiate emergency interventions when indicated
  • Follow OSHA standards, HIPAA regulations, infection control policies, and universal precautions
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Assist with safe patient transfers as needed

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of patient care and education
  • Participate in required training, in-services, and competency assessments
  • Maintain proficiency with anesthesia equipment and technologies
  • Adhere to facility policies, including dress code and identification requirements

Fiscal and Resource Management

  • Assist in monitoring supply usage and reporting needs
  • Communicate supply requirements after procedures to prevent shortages
  • Support cost-effective practices in the department

  • Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique, and clinic safety standards

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff
  • Ability to perform in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
  • Demonstrates clinical competency across all age groups served within scope of practice
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (RN program)
  • Current, active NC RN license
  • Current certification/recertification as a Nurse Anesthetist verified by the NCBON
  • Demonstrated experience in anesthesia care, including:
  • Pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation
  • Anesthetic induction, maintenance, and emergency care
  • Post-anesthetic care
  • Peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions (e.g., respiratory/ventilatory care, CPR, fluid/electrolyte management)
  • Current certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required
