Grading Foreman

The Grading Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate activities of grading crew, may also engage in the trade work of the employees being supervised. This is a working foreman position. Must be skilled in operating heavy equipment.

The Role:

  • Plan out each day and communicate to the crew members what activities are to be accomplished.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Grading Operations Manager and Safety Manager as needed.
  • Coordinate, direct and lead workers engaged in the construction activities.
  • Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork and pride.
  • Review and verify employee time sheets for accuracy before submitting to the timekeepers/Payroll.
  • Analyze and resolve worker issues. If the problems are around harassment, work with Human Resources to develop a plan of action.
  • Communicate with maintenance staff about maintenance needs on all major pieces of equipment on assigned jobs.
  • Relate to the public and to customers in a professional, courteous and respectful manner.
  • Follow daily Foreman procedures and protocols as set forth in orientations and trainings.

Work Environment:

  • Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Effectively handle lifting and moving various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly work extended/overtime hours.
  • Ability to travel to job sites across North and West Texas; may include frequent overnight stays.

What we Look For:

  • Individuals who work safely and have the courage to speak up if you see unsafe behavior or conditions.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in utility construction.
  • Strong coordination, time management, active listening and reasoning skills required.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and to work toward the solution of those issues.
  • 3 – 5 years of related skill, knowledge and experience in heavy civil operations construction.
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Certifications highly recommended: Erosion and Sediment Control, OSHA, First Aid and CPR, Confined Space, Competent Person, Asbestos.
