Job Title: Mentor & Afterschool Program Coordinator

Department: Prevention / Out-of-School Time (OST)

Reports To: Program Manager / Manager, Asset Building

Employment Status: Full-Time 40 hours per week, Non-Exempt

Pay Status: Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

The Mentor & Afterschool Program Coordinator supports the mission of Alternatives For Girls (AFG) by coordinating mentor programming and implementing licensed school-age child care and Out-of-School Time (OST) services. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, structured, developmentally appropriate, and engaging programming for school-aged youth during afterschool and summer hours.

Mentor Program Coordination

• Recruit, screen, and train adult volunteer mentors in accordance with AFG policies and licensing requirements.

• Coordinate mentor-mentee matches and provide ongoing oversight.

• Facilitate supervised mentor-mentee group activities.

• Maintain mentor documentation and logs.

Licensed School-Age Program Delivery

• Plan and facilitate structured afterschool and summer activities.

• Maintain required staff-to-child ratios and active supervision.

• Support daily routines including arrival, dismissal, meals, and transitions.

Youth Supervision & Positive Guidance

• Maintain safety and supervision at all times.

• Use positive behavior guidance techniques.

• Document incidents and concerns as required.

Documentation & Recordkeeping

• Maintain attendance records and required licensing documentation.

• Complete case notes, incident reports, and assessments.

• Support licensing inspections and monitoring.

Family Communication & Engagement

• Communicate program expectations and schedules.

• Support family engagement and attendance.

Program Operations & Safety

• Assist with program setup and cleanup.

• Support meal/snack distribution.

• Follow emergency, safety, and mandated reporting procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience).

• 1–3 years experience in licensed school-age child care or OST programs.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
