Manager, Critical Risk Assurance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Critical Risk Assurance based in India.

This role focuses on strengthening operational safety and risk management practices across complex environments by ensuring critical controls are identified, verified, and continuously improved. You will play a key role in analyzing high-risk activities, preventing serious incidents, and supporting a proactive safety culture. The position combines risk assessment expertise, field engagement, assurance activities, and operational learning. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate safety performance, improve control effectiveness, and drive sustainable improvements. Accountabilities:

The Manager, Critical Risk Assurance will be responsible for driving critical risk identification, control assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives across operational, project, and maintenance activities. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, stakeholder collaboration, and the ability to translate safety insights into practical improvements.

  • Identify operational, project, and maintenance-related hazards, unwanted events, and potentially severe consequences across business activities.
  • Assess critical controls, evaluate their reliability, and define assurance activities required to verify effectiveness.
  • Conduct and support deep-dive reviews with operational teams to confirm the implementation and effectiveness of critical controls.
  • Analyze incidents and high-potential near misses to extract lessons, update risk assessments, and improve operational practices.
  • Develop and support safety performance reporting, including leading and lagging indicators related to critical risk management.
  • Coordinate field verification activities to identify control gaps, unsafe deviations, operational constraints, and improvement opportunities.
  • Review and support risk assessments, hazard identification processes, job safety analyses, and safe work method statements.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of critical control management systems and assurance frameworks.
  • Promote contemporary safety management practices and encourage operational learning across teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve compliance, safety performance, and risk awareness in multicultural environments.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will bring experience in safety management, operational risk, and high-risk work environments, with the ability to combine technical expertise and strong stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in construction, facilities management, property management, or similar environments involving high-risk activities and assets.
  • Proven experience identifying occupational and operational/process safety risks, including areas such as electrical hazards, confined spaces, hazardous materials, and working at height.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, including HIRA, JSA, and SWMS preparation and review.
  • Understanding of permit-to-work systems and their implementation within operational environments.
  • Experience evaluating control effectiveness, identifying control failures, and defining verification and assurance activities.
  • Familiarity with safety management systems, critical control management, and operational risk frameworks.
  • Experience working in complex, multicultural, or global organizations is preferred.
  • Recognized qualifications in safety management or risk management are an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • High integrity, strong ownership mindset, and willingness to intervene when unsafe conditions are identified.
