Overview
The Senior Operations Manager provides strategic and hands-on leadership for a large commercial janitorial and floor care operation. This role oversees daily service delivery, develops operational leaders, drives continuous improvement, and ensures consistent execution of quality, safety, and customer service standards.
This position requires a highly visible field leader who can effectively balance operational strategy with hands-on execution, build strong teams, and deliver measurable results.
Responsibilities
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for janitorial and floor care operations
- Oversee daily service execution, ensuring quality standards and contractual requirements are consistently met
- Lead supervisors, managers, and frontline associates through coaching, accountability, and performance management
- Conduct regular operational reviews, facility inspections, and quality audits
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, service delivery, and operational efficiency
- Develop and execute action plans to address performance gaps
- Lead commercial cleaning and specialty floor care programs, including:
- Daily janitorial services
- Hard surface maintenance
- Floor stripping and refinishing
- Waxing and recoating
- Burnishing and polishing
- Carpet extraction
- Deep cleaning programs
- Specialty cleaning projects
- Ensure teams are trained and equipped to execute proper cleaning procedures and floor care standards
- Drive consistency in equipment utilization, chemical management, safety practices, and quality expectations
- Lead, mentor, and develop operational leaders, supervisors, and frontline employees
- Build a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and Human Resources on staffing, onboarding, retention, and workforce planning
- Identify and develop future leaders within the organization
- Serve as a key operational partner to the client, ensuring exceptional service delivery and satisfaction
- Build strong relationships through proactive communication and responsiveness
- Lead resolution of service concerns, escalations, and operational challenges
- Participate in performance reviews and operational discussions
- Identify opportunities to enhance service quality and strengthen the client partnership
- Manage operational performance through effective labor planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Monitor labor utilization, overtime, supplies, and operating expenses
- Analyze performance metrics and implement strategies to improve results
- Support financial objectives through operational discipline and continuous improvement
- Ensure resources are effectively aligned to meet service expectations
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial janitorial services, facilities management, environmental services, or integrated facilities services
- Experience managing large-scale facility operations with significant hourly workforces
- Strong background in commercial floor care programs and specialty cleaning services
- Proven experience leading supervisors, managers, and frontline teams
- Experience managing client relationships within a contracted services environment
- Strong understanding of labor management, scheduling, quality control, and safety practices
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational performance and develop high-performing teams
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to provide hands-on leadership within an active facility environment
- Experience with a national facilities services provider or commercial cleaning organization
- Experience managing large corporate, industrial, aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, or high-traffic facilities
- Background managing complex service operations with high customer expectations
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Experience with WinTeam or similar facilities management platforms
