Job Description

Description: Energetic Materials Lead

Reports to: Production Supervisor Work Location: Clear Lake, SD

Functional Area: Energetic Materials Required Travel: None

Exempt Status: Non-exempt Salary Range: DOE

Schedule: 4/10 hour shifts

Job Summary: The Energetic Materials Lead is responsible for providing work direction to staff in the production of powders, oversight of inventory, and ongoing job/project management to ensure production has materials needed to better prepare them for on time completion in order to meet customer and company needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Assumes leadership role for all powder production as well as provides oversight and communication to Energetic Materials staff and production to maintain proper inventory levels to meet production needs.

2. Assists in areas of providing employee direction, training and safety.

3. Understands, follows, and enforces company policies and procedures governing safety standards and work rules for all employees.

4. Operates equipment as needed.

5. Ensures a neat and organized work area per company housekeeping policy.

6. Monitors work flow to ensure powders are completed on time and down-time is minimized, and maintains an equal distribution of work.

7. Identifies waste in area of responsibility and works to eliminate.

8. Responsible for some hazardous waste management functions. Performs physical waste activities such as labeling and ensuring waste is handled properly under their area of responsibility.

9. Evaluates effective methods of production and implements improvements through the product team.

10. Drives company vehicles as required.

11. Performs other work related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).

2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility.

3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.

4. High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required; at least 2 years of related experience required.

5. Must be able to obtain and maintain a driver’s license to operate company vehicles upon hire.

6. Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role is preferred. Must have ability to lead in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

7. General background in automated manufacturing and prior experience in an explosives manufacturing setting is preferred.

8. Experience in Microsoft Office application and ability to learn and become proficient in our internal computer systems and applications.

9. Must be able to obtain and maintain a driver’s license in order to drive company vehicles, upon hire.

10. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.

11. Function Specific RCRA Training upon hire.

12. Ability to work with other employees as part of a team.

13. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities in support of end-result/goal.

14. Excellent organizational skills.

1. Ability to talk and hear in order to communicate with others.

2. Seated work up to 30% of the workday.

3. Frequently required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors.

4. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel as well as reach with hands and arms.

5. Lifting, pushing or pulling of up to 50 pounds is required, and ability to move materials by lifting, pushing or pulling more than 50 pounds, with assistance.

6. Bending, squatting, or kneeling is required in order to lift or move materials or perform other activities such as filing.

7. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.

8. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives.

9. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility.

10. To mitigate the risk of burn when working with powders, employees must wear a fire suit.

11. Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD). Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
