Overview
Bath Iron Works (BIW), a General Dynamics company, is seeking highly motivated, efficiency minded, and detail oriented individuals to be Supervisors of Trade Planning. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), these individuals will lead a team responsible for all work order packaging and deck plate planning functions for new construction, install work in Bath, ME. Successful candidates will be comfortable managing the details of a packaging workload that can routinely exceed 1,000 work orders per week as well as a deck plate planning staff that supports an Operations workload of the same magnitude. These candidates must be able to quantifiably measure the performance of their individual contributors and take appropriate management action. At the same time, these leaders must support skills development and innovation that will allow our team to achieve our aggressive efficiency goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership:
- Promote a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team
- Ensure safe workplace conditions and compliance with company safety standards
Execution:
- Supervise both the work order packaging and deck plate planning teams
- Maintain a VIZ board IAW the BIW Business Operating System (BOS) including a RAIL in SmartSheets for all muster issues
- Operate within a prescribed system to measure work order packaging efficiency at the individual contributor level, report findings to the manager and take appropriate action.
- Ensure planning tasks are completed to established schedule, cost and quality parameters
- Processes and verifies employee time accounting records and ensures required LMS trainings are completed ahead of schedul
- Implement corrective actions to address deficiencies and ensure deliverables are met
Training and Development:
- Lead effort to cultivate and implement ideas that will improve overall efficiency on the team
- Ensure all new members of the team are properly on-boarded IAW departmental procedure
Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Hold daily, productive musters, utilizing the BOS to elevate any issues through the tiered muster system
- Develop employee performance evaluation
- Promote open dialog with production control counterpart in support of the Operations Plan of the Week process
Continuous Improvement:
- Have an eye for continuous improvement on all projects in an effort to improve Safety, Quality, Schedule, Cost, and People.
Responsibilities
- Relevant post-secondary coursework required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Qualifications
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Previous trade planning experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify process bottlenecks, analyze complex data, and make informed decisions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access, required to manage work assignments and performance metrics.
- Ability to summarize project status to report out to high level stake holders clearly and effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead a team toward common goals.
- Strong desire and ability to collaborate and coordinate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent organization and time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail despite a large dataset and a commitment to accuracy in meeting deliverables.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
