Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Shift: 2nd Shift
Starting Pay: $22.00/hour + $3.00 night differential — higher depending on experience
We are hiring a Structural Steel CNC Operator to run CNC equipment used in steel fabrication. This position requires experience with structural steel, fabrication drawings, material handling, and precision measurement.
Responsibilities:- Set up and operate CNC equipment, including plasma cutters, beam drill lines, and angle lines.
- Review fabrication drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine production requirements.
- Load and secure steel beams, plates, and other materials using overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
- Monitor equipment operation and make adjustments to maintain accuracy and quality.
- Check dimensions and tolerances using tape measures, calipers, squares, and other precision measuring tools.
- Make basic programming edits or machine adjustments for different material sizes and thicknesses.
- Perform routine CNC maintenance and assist with troubleshooting.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area while following OSHA and shop safety procedures.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred.
- 2+ years of CNC machine operation experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing.
- Ability to read and understand structural steel shop drawings.
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
- Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
