Position Summary:

The Liftgate Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of liftgate systems and related components on commercial vehicles. This position requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to perform welding and fabrication as needed. The technician is expected to complete work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality and safety standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Diagnostic & Troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues involving liftgate systems. Test 12V DC electrical circuits, switches, wiring, hydraulic pressure, and related components to identify system failures and determine appropriate repairs.

· Repair & Preventive Maintenance: Inspect, repair, replace, and maintain liftgate components, including motors, pumps, hydraulic hoses, cylinders, platforms, wiring, switches, and mounting hardware.

· Liftgate Installation: Install and properly secure various liftgate systems, including rail, tuck-under, cantilever, and pickup-style liftgates onto commercial vehicle chassis and bodies.

· Welding & Fabrication: Perform minor metal cutting, grinding, drilling, and MIG/Stick welding to repair or modify mounting brackets, frames, platforms, and other liftgate-related components.

· System Inspection & Testing: Conduct operational inspections and performance tests following installation or repair to ensure liftgate systems function properly and safely.

· Service Documentation: Accurately complete service and repair documentation, including work performed, parts used, equipment condition, and required safety records.

· Safety & Compliance: Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area while working with electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and welding equipment.

· Tools & Equipment: Properly maintain and safely operate hand tools, mechanical tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding equipment required to perform assigned duties.

Additional Duties: Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support operational and service requirements

Required Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Basic knowledge of 12V DC electrical systems, including circuits, switches, wiring, and electrical components.

· Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, including pumps, hoses, cylinders, and hydraulic fluid pressure.

· Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues.

· Ability to perform basic mechanical repairs and component replacement.

· Ability to safely use general mechanical hand tools and power tools.

· Ability to perform basic metal cutting, grinding, and welding.

· Must provide and maintain a basic set of general mechanical and hand tools.

· Ability to lift up to 50–60 pounds and safely perform physically demanding tasks.

· Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in awkward positions.

· Ability to follow company safety procedures and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

· Technical or trade school certification in Hydraulics, Automotive, Diesel, Mechanical Technology, or a related field.

· Previous experience with liftgate installation, repair, or maintenance.

· Experience working with commercial vehicles, truck bodies, or related equipment.

· Experience troubleshooting and repairing 12V electrical and hydraulic systems.

· Experience with MIG and/or stick welding and basic metal fabrication.

· Familiarity with rail, tuck-under, cantilever, and pickup-style liftgate systems.

· Ability to read and interpret basic electrical or hydraulic diagrams.

· Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with supervisors and team members.
