Position Summary:
Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) is excited to announcewe are hiring a highly qualified candidate for the position of AccommodationsSpecialist.

As an employee of this highly energetic and student-oriented center, you will provide academic support to prospective and currentstudents within ARC. The Accommodations Specialist provides direct support toindividuals with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA), conducts disability eligibility analyses, provides referrals, approvesreasonable accommodations, and connects individuals with services to supporttheir personal and/or academic goals. Additionally, the AccommodationSpecialist educates campus constituencies regarding support for individualswith disabilities and facilitates compliance with the ADA/ADAAA and relatedfederal, state, and local regulations and University policies.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, thefollowing:
  1. Performs intake interviews to gain afoundational understanding of individual needs and evaluates information frommedical and/or psychological professionals to determine eligibility; makesreferrals and/or consults with diagnosticians, as necessary.
  2. Works with individuals todetermine reasonable accommodations needed for academic, professional and/orpersonal success; connects individuals to and/or provides direct resources andservices.
  3. Educates students, families,faculty and staff on appropriate services for and communications withindividuals with disabilities; compiles and distributes necessary documentationto verify the need for accommodation.
  4. Assists individuals with solvingbarriers unique and/or common to individuals with disabilities; interfaces withcampus constituencies to ensure individuals gain equitable access to resources.
  5. Increases understanding regardingissues affecting individuals with disabilities by delivering presentations,trainings, workshops and/or educational materials related to research and bestpractices.
  6. Records interactions withindividuals with disabilities and analyzes effectiveness of accommodations,compiles reports and analyzes data related to accommodations, compliance, andprogram efficacy.
  7. Maintains confidentiality ofuniversity and student records, as applicable.
  8. Maintains currency of knowledgewith respect to technology, equipment, applicable laws, regulations, standardsand/or systems.
  9. Serves as a Campus SecurityAuthority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  10. Performsmiscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications
  • Highly proficient with American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Master's degree in Education or Special Education.
  • Experience in a post-secondary educational setting.
  • Experience in the interactive process and provision of accommodations.
