Safety Manager in Greenville, South Carolina at Barringer Construction

Weekly/Daily Responsibilities:

• Distribute weekly toolbox talks on relevant topics for our types of construction
• Educate workers about the company’s safety policy and procedures that they need to follow
• Establish, monitor and enforce PPE standards for the company
• Site specific safety kick-off and orientation sessions
• Monitor safety performance of on-site supervisors/workers to determine vulnerabilities and risks
• Perform periodic inspection on equipment and tools on projects
• Perform accident investigations to gauge measures that need to be taken to prevent them the next time.
• Write detailed reports of on-site accidents and near misses.
• Conduct detailed jobsite safety audits on a periodic basis (3-4x/year)
• Communicate essential safety standards to workers during each walkthrough (debrief with offenders and/or supervisors)
• Promotes safe practices at the job site and enforce safety guidelines (rewards, recognition & incentives)
• Conducts investigations of all accidents and near misses
• Conducts job hazard analyses
• Responds to employees’ safety concerns and task specific challenges on jobsites

Training & Development Responsibilities:

• Training of all employees and identify special requirements for employees. Ex: OSHA 10, CPR, Fall Protection, Scaffolds, etc.
• Subcontractor outreach and collaborative cross-training where applicable
• Research, awareness and training for new regulatory laws and guidelines

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Continued development of Barringer Safety program.
• Responsible for driving a safety culture, keeping policies up to date, meeting the latest standards establishing new policy as risks are discovered.
• Assure compliance with all state and federal safety standard requirements including proper record-keeping (Injury logs, OSHA 300, etc.)
• Develop, monitor and maintain safety incentive programs for field and project management teams
• Develop and maintain site documentation logs and checklists for use by field personnel
• Support of OCIP/CCIP programs as applicable
• Manage jobsite safety engineers (in the event Barringer has a project that warrants full time safety personnel
• Provide technical information and data for marketing pursuits.

Education and/or Experience: 4 year college degree in a construction or safety program and/or 4 years of experience in construction or construction safety.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret building plans, schedules and product specification sheets, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs, and data tables.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of co-workers and subcontractors in a fast-paced work environment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, visually observe and move around the construction site. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk or sit. Must be able to move about freely in an office and construction environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to work on a computer and to read plans and documents. Distance vision is required to operate vehicles and observe workers at a construction site.

Work Environment: The employee will spend time in an office environment or on indoor and outdoor construction sites with fluctuating temperatures, changes in elevation, occasional dusty conditions, and loud noises over 85 decibels.
