We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled Associate Consultant – Mechanical & Energy Services to become a part of CRBN Solutions, the progressive decarbonisation consultancy arm of the Morris & Spottiswood Group, serving clients across the UK. This is a rare opportunity to join an ambitious business at an early stage of its growth journey and play a defining role in establishing and leading our Mechanical, Energy Modelling and Heat Networks capability, growing these services into a core business unit supporting the company’s planned expansion.

The Role
As an Associate Consultant – Mechanical & Energy Services, your role will encompass being responsible for a range of Mechanical Engineering and Energy services, strategically guiding clients towards their decarbonisation targets. This involves meticulous consideration of operational and embodied carbon implications, minimising construction stage impacts, and spearheading the mechanical discipline. Your expertise will span various sectors, which may include Education, Healthcare, Financial and Defence sectors, as well as Commercial Offices, Retail, and Production and Manufacturing. Here, you'll bring forth innovative, value-driven solutions, cementing client relationships as a natural outcome of your exceptional interpersonal skills. While you excel as a collaborative team player, your capacity for independent judgment will be crucial, allowing you to navigate complex scenarios with confidence.
Your proficiency in communication, both written and verbal, is pivotal, especially as you engage in technical discussions and liaise with clients. This proficiency, coupled with your persuasive and professional approach, underpins your effectiveness as a consultant. Your entrepreneurial mindset ensures that you proactively seek innovative solutions and capitalise on emerging opportunities. You will be expected to establish, recruit and develop the future Mechanical & Energy Services team, growing the discipline in line with the company's strategic expansion plans. Initially, you will act as both technical lead and delivery specialist, before building and leading a dedicated team as the discipline grows. What we’re looking for
Essential:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) with relevant professional institution.
- Demonstrable experience in mechanical/building services engineering design and delivery.
- Low carbon heat expertise, including heat pump and building electrification solutions.
- Practical experience in carbon reduction from concept through to implementation.
- Experience in undertaking building performance and operational energy modelling to support decarbonisation strategies
- Proficiency in using energy modelling software (IES VE, DesignBuilder, or similar).
- Experience of heat network feasibility studies, concept design and techno-economic assessment.
- Able to take full responsibility for producing, checking and approving engineering reports, designs, drawings, technical specifications.
- Strong report-writing and client-facing skills.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Domestic and Non-Domestic Retrofit standards (PAS 2035/2038 or similar).
- Experience mentoring, managing or developing technical staff.
- Ability to coordinate and engage with clients and key stakeholders.
- Able to manage projects from inception to completion and manage risk.
- Commercial awareness and financial acumen.
- Experience contributing to business development, bids and fee proposals.
