Job Description

Open Shift Platform Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an OpenShift Platform Engineer based in Canada.

This is an opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional to take a leading role in designing, deploying, and operating enterprise-grade OpenShift platforms. You will serve as a key technical expert, shaping platform standards and ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable containerized environments. Working across bare-metal infrastructure, VMware, and public cloud platforms, you will help enable hybrid deployments and workload migrations. The role combines platform architecture, automation, security, disaster recovery, and performance optimization. You will collaborate with networking, operating systems, database, and application teams to support critical production workloads. This is a fully remote, full-time position for someone who enjoys technical ownership and solving complex infrastructure challenges.

Accountabilities:
  • Architect, deploy, and maintain production OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) clusters across bare-metal infrastructure, VMware, and public cloud environments.

  • Act as the primary OpenShift subject matter expert, establishing technical standards, best practices, and platform engineering guidelines across the organization.

  • Collaborate with networking, operating systems, database, and application teams to integrate infrastructure services and support business-critical workloads.

  • Lead cluster lifecycle management, including provisioning, patching, upgrades, maintenance, and ongoing platform optimization.

  • Design and implement backup and restoration strategies, high-availability configurations, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure platform resilience.

  • Enable workload migrations between on-premises and cloud environments, supporting hybrid deployments and optimizing performance, infrastructure costs, and resource capacity.

  • Drive infrastructure security and hardening, applying appropriate controls and practices for large-scale and regulated environments.

  • Automate cluster provisioning, configuration, and maintenance through CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code approaches.

  • Maintain platform observability and performance through logging, metrics, monitoring, and alerting solutions.

  • Identify and resolve platform issues while continuously improving reliability, security, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Requirements:
  • At least 7 years of experience in infrastructure engineering or platform operations.

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience engineering and operating OpenShift (OCP) platforms in production environments.

  • Strong understanding of container orchestration, Kubernetes internals, and the broader OpenShift ecosystem.

  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure architecture across VMware, bare-metal environments, and public cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.

  • Experience managing hybrid infrastructure and migrating workloads between on-premises and cloud environments, including the ability to assess cost, performance, and resource trade-offs.

  • Proven expertise in backup and restoration processes, disaster recovery planning, and high-availability configurations.

  • Practical experience securing and hardening infrastructure using role-based access control (RBAC), SELinux, TLS, logging, and audit trails.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code or GitOps tools, such as Ansible and Terraform.

  • Strong infrastructure troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams.

  • OpenShift certifications, such as Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.

  • Experience in managed services, telecommunications, or broadband environments.

  • Familiarity with database and storage integration for containerized workloads.

  • Exposure to compliance and security frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

Benefits:
  • Annual salary range of CAD 85,000–95,000.

  • Fully remote working arrangement within Ontario, Canada.

  • Full-time employment.
