About This Position

To represent the court system in a professional manner; to be courteous and friendly, respond to all concerns, questions and requests in such a manner so that the user of the court system remembers the experience in a positive way, to perform those duties which insure the smooth handling of all court proceedings.
  • Prepare the courtroom for morning and afternoon sessions.
  • Checks in parties for court proceedings.
  • Stops people from entering courtroom during closed sessions.
  • Reports security violations or suspicious items to Sheriff's Office or other appropriate personnel.
  • Reports need for police or medical assistance to sheriff's office if necessary.
  • Assists judges in coordinating court proceedings.
  • Acts as a liaison between judges, parties, attorneys and witnesses.
  • Enforces courtroom rules of behavior and warns persons not to disturb court procedure.
  • Checks courtroom security and cleanliness and assures availability of supplies.
  • Responds to questions from the public in a courteous and service-oriented manner.

Supervision Received

Receives direct supervision from Jury Coordinator; general supervision from the Clerk of Circuit Court and Administrative Deputy.


  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Some knowledge of the court system.
  • Some knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
  • Skilled in listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Skilled in identifying the nature of problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good work relationships with judges, jurors, court staff, public officials, and citizens of the community.
  • Ability to speak clearly so that it is understandable to listener.
  • Ability to concentrate and not be distracted while performing a task over a period of time.
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
