About This Position
Position Summary
Manager of Indigenous Engagement is responsible for advancing our work with Indigenous families, children and communities. This position will work in and with indigenous communities and will have a strong cultural understanding of Native American culture and governments. Serving as liaison between the Parents as Teachers national office and stakeholders with interests in tribal communities, this position will facilitate expansion of the Parents as Teachers footprint within Indigenous communities, build strong relationships with tribal leadership, and foster effective partnerships.
Essential Functions
Relationships (35%)
- Serve as a primary source of communication with Indigenous communities and governments
- Compile and analyze tribal affiliation trends on a quarterly basis to anticipate impact on revenue
- Work collaboratively with other team members in the Expansion and Model Replication department to ensure consistency throughout the program support system.
- Manage the MIECHV Tribal Home Visiting expansion initiative with input/oversight of the Director of Expansion
- Engage with research and learning projects associated with Parents as Teachers work in tribal communities
- Engage with the National Director of Equity and the DEIA Council to engage professionals and families from indigenous communities to advance cultural lens of the PAT model, content and resources.
- Regularly engages with ICPATL to ensure inclusivity of Indigenous perspectives.
Engagement (30%)
- Lead the establishment of an Indigenous Leadership Council made up of representatives from tribes implementing Parents as Teachers services
- Establish formal partnerships with tribal organizations on behalf of Parents as Teachers
- Establish and sustain quality relationships and programs with Indigenous tribal leadership.
- Work with the Director of Public Policy to monitor the federal appropriations to tribes and tribal governments and provide consultation to grantees seeking to expand or replicate the Parents as Teachers model or curricula.
Leadership/Vision (30%)
- Serve as key personnel to coordinate Indigenous Engagement at the annual Parents as Teachers International Conference including providing input on conference speakers, coordinating local site visits, supporting the planning of the Indigenous Luncheon, and providing input on conference speakers and presenters.
- Be an active voice in the tribal home visiting conversation, representing Parents as Teachers’ interests.
- Supports the evolution of the organization by providing education to staff about indigenous cultures.
- Informs the development of learning content, resources and processes to ensure cultural responsiveness.
- Represent Parents as Teachers at national conferences and events, sharing the organization’s vision and strategic goals
- Partner across organization as needed to support strategic efforts.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years work experience including progressively responsible administrative, and/or organizational development experience.
- Significant familiarity with Parents as Teachers is required.
- Significant experience working with or within tribal governments
- Deep understanding of Indigenous culture and language preferred
- Experience in relationship building with people of diverse experiences and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work across multiple teams to complete projects.
