About This Position
The purpose of this position is to provide safe, functioning equipment and fleet vehicles to the City of Globe. This position inspects, maintains, and records equipment and fleet vehicles, in addition to maintaining a clean safe work environment. City of Globe is a drug and alcohol-free environment.
Education and Experience:
- Perform comprehensive vehicle safety inspections and preventive maintenance, performs mechanical repairs, rebuilds small line and heavy line equipment, and some welding and fabrication.
- Ability to supply own basic mechanic tools.
- Tests and diagnostic repairs on all city vehicles and equipment, including hydraulic systems, electrical system, pneumatic systems, drivability and safety of emergency equipment, small equipment, road equipment and fleet vehicles.
- Provides assistance with shop clean up, shop maintenance, this includes but not limited to sweeping the shop, moping the shop, as well as fueling equipment and delivering vehicles as needed.
- Able to attend, pass and maintain any certifications provided by the city.
- Must be able to communicate verbally as well as written reports, must be able to work in a team environment with safety as top priority.
- Occasionally work On-call hours.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Four years of automotive experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Technical school training in automotive repair preferred and/or trade certifications are desirable.
- Must maintain Class D driver’s license.
- ASE Certification or Vendor Specific Certification.
- Certification in brakes, steering, drivability and electrical Systems
- Customer service, operate and understand scan tools and electronic diagnostic tools.
- Ability to read and understand manuals and schematics. Both electronic and printed versions.
- Read and write minimal of high school level.
- Problem solving skills using deductive reasoning.
- Ability to follow direction verbally as well as written
- Basic welding skills preferred
- Knowledge and experience with a wide variety of engines, mechanical parts and mechanisms.
- Experience with mechanical hand tools including wrenches and screwdrivers, pumps, welders.
- Experience with air powered tools, jacks and lifting devices such as cranes, pressure washers, drill press.
- Computer skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, City customers, and the general public.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making authorized decisions.
