About This Position
Work Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
Previous experience with drafting of engineering plans related to roadway, bridge, stormwater, potable water, wastewater, and reclaim water projects is desired. Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Microsoft Office is desired. Knowledge of Manatee County Public Works Standards and FDOT standards is desired.
Working Conditions
Typical indoor office environment. Occasional outdoor field work required, possibly in adverse weather conditions. Sitting for long periods of time, working on computer. Lifting equipment or supplies up to 25 pounds alone and up to 50 pounds with assistance. Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Occasionally required to drive County vehicles as part of the duties of the job. Occasionally required to work other than normal business hours.
Essential Functions
Specific duties and levels of responsibility will be determined by level of position assigned.
Performs basic CAD drafting duties to assist higher level technicians and engineers. Files and retrieves prints and drawings. Performs office clerical work.
Conducts mapping research for internal and external customers with utility requests and also provides prints of related information requested.
Reviews construction plans to verify compliance with the County's development and construction standards.
Plans and conducts engineering research, field studies, inspections, and plan evaluations.
Interprets and uses highly complex engineering techniques in the solution of problems encountered in the area of assignment.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one (1) year of work experience related to area of assignment. May consider specialized courses or training related to area of assignment, i.e., drafting, surveying, mapping, design, etc., in place of work experience.
Tech II: High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) or more years of work experience related to area of assignment.
Tech III: High school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) or more years of work experience related to area of assignment.
Senior Tech: High school diploma or equivalent. Four (4) or more years of work experience related to area of assignment.
All levels require a driver's license with valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience may be considered.
Tech I: Knowledge of engineering concepts, techniques, tools and equipment used in area of assignment, utilizing manual and/or computer methods and basic mathematics, including geometry, algebra and trigonometry. Knowledge of computer operations for AutoCAD drafting and data entry processing, with ability to sit at workstations for long periods of time.
Tech II: Prior engineering design experience desired.
Tech III: College level course work or training in engineering technology desired.
Senior Tech: Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field desired.

Good knowledge and understanding of computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties, including AutoCAD.
Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with staff, contractors, engineers, the general public, and other stakeholders.
Able to explain facts, policies, and practices.
Capable of working independently under general supervision.
