Lifeguard for Apartments Rensselaer or Rotterdam at Sunrise Management & Consulting – Rensselaer, New York

Van Allen Apartments in North Greenbush and Long Pond Village Apartments in Rotterdam, apartment communities managed by Sunrise Management & Consulting, are hiring lifeguards for Summer 2025. The Lifeguard ensures swimmers' safety in the pool area and administers first aid or lifesaving techniques when needed. This position is part-time and seasonal, and pools are generally open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures that the rules and regulations of the swimming pool are followed to maintain a safe swimming environment.
2. Administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and uses an automated external defibrillator (AED) when needed.
3. Contacts emergency medical personnel when a serious injury occurs.
4. Performs daily pool and pool area cleaning and maintenance tasks such as vacuuming the pool and cleaning the drains.
5. Checks the pool water by conducting chemical tests; maintains cleanliness of the water by adding the proper pool chemicals.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
7. Completes all other projects or requests as directed by Supervisor.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Extensive knowledge of and ability to administer or use first aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving techniques.
• Excellent observational skills.
• Ability to enforce pool regulations and rules.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must possess the following certifications from the Red Cross or other equivalent agency:
• Lifeguard certification issued within the prior two years
• CPR certification issued within the prior year.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be a skilled swimmer and able to pull weight through the water.
• Must be physically able to rescue someone drowning or injured in the water.
• Prolonged periods of being outdoors.
