About This Position
Job Summary
Conducts group and individual fitness classes; presents educational programs; designs exercise programs; attends health fairs. Reports to Supervising Physical Therapists and Manager/Director of the Neuro Rehabilitation department.

Working Conditions
Primarily Works in a well-lighted and air-conditioned environment with period of heavy workload and stress. This role may include working in less-than-ideal home conditions, which can include exposure to extreme temperatures and environments that may not meet typical cleanliness standards such as clutter, unkept surfaces, and homes with pets. Works in various conditions.

Confidentiality: Adheres to established policies on privacy and security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as applicable by Shannon Policy.
Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions
- The Rehabilitation Specialist will perform the following activities under guidance of a Physical Therapist: range of motion activities of all extremities, therapeutic exercises, mobility or transfer activities, ambulation or wheelchair activities, activities of daily living, and other activities as specified and deemed appropriate by the Physical Therapist. Performs the duties of exercise leader, to include greeting members, establishing a good rapport with clients, demonstrating a positive caring attitude, and implementing individual and group exercise classes.
- Maintains knowledge of health trends and needs, exercise and wellness program practices, standards and operations, body mechanics, exercise techniques, and basic nutrition.
- Ability to adhere to hospital and facility policies and procedures governing patient privacy, appropriate access, and confidentiality of patient information. Access is determined by associate’s need to know.
- Ability to assess client’s wellness and fitness needs and provide appropriate exercise sessions; ability to motivate clients. Monitors client progress, reinforces exercise behavior and safety. Offers corrective feedback. Assists with the training of exercise leaders and interns.
- Assists with the teaching of specialty classes. Identifies clients with special needs and establishes specific exercise programs for safe participation for a variety of well and medically managed clients.
- Is dependable and responsible with work schedules, maintains a safe environment, assists in maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Required
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology
Experience:
- Preferred
- Three years of experience in Fitness or Rehabilitation
Certification/Licensure:
- Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Preferred
- Personal Training Certification
- Oncology Exercise Specialist Certification
- May be preferred for some positions
