This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits. This position is seasonal and will end when the Warming Station Season ends. The Warming Station season is from November 1, 2025 - March 31, 2026.
Warming Station Attendants are considered essential workers, which means attendants are expected to report to stations during weekdays, weekends, holidays, and weather emergencies. Attendants are responsible for overseeing operations at any of the five Gwinnett County Warming Stations during overnight shifts from 5:30 pm - 7:00 am, while managing scheduled breaks. The incumbent is empathetic and respectful while supporting residents, enforcing station rules and adhering to all rules and regulations of the Warming Station operations. Additionally, the attendants will be responsible for ensuring participant safety, monitoring behaviors, and reporting any incidents or emergencies in accordance with protocols.
Essential Duties
- Overseeing operations at any of the five Gwinnett County Warming Stations during overnight shifts from 5:30 pm - 7:00 am, while managing scheduled breaks
- Completing setup, cleanup, and general organization of the site
- Maintaining accurate attendance logs and documentation
- Recording and submitting timely and accurate reports to supervisors regarding time, attendance, supply inventory, overnight incidents, and other critical information during shifts
- Using county vehicle, provide transportation for residents to designated warming stations during Advanced In-Person Voting and on Election Days, as needed
- Communicating effectively with team members and supervisors
- Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to schedule changes due to weather-related emergencies
Other Job Requirements/Information
- Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a public safety background is required which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories, credit check, and fingerprinting
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays
- Must have reliable transportation to and from assigned station, even in inclement weather
- Be punctual, dependable, and organized, with strong attention to detail
- Must be flexible with scheduling, including weekends, holidays, and additional hours during inclement weather
- Must be a team player who communicates well and collaborates effectively
- Must be willing to participate in and complete required trainings
- Drive a shuttle to safely transport residents to and from the Warming Station as needed, following all traffic regulations and organizational safety protocols
Grade
- The grade for this position is 97. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the minimum requirements
- Associate degree in social services or social work
- One year of experience working with homeless, underserved communities
- One year of experience in community outreach and nonprofit
Public Speaking
- Facilitating clear and respectful verbal communication with guests to provide support and enforce station rules
- Engaging in effective interpersonal communication with team members and supervisors to ensure coordinated operations and information sharing in a timely manner
