About This Position

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Center Director, group fitness instructors will maintain a professional, respectful, and positive atmosphere for our members, guests, and staff while promoting member wellness and helping patrons reach their fitness goals.

Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for teaching group fitness classes

2. Maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with members, guests, and staff

3. Provide high-quality recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

4. Ability to respond appropriately to accidents, incidents, and emergencies.

5. Maintain and practice a safe exercise and work environment for members and staff by keeping a neat, clean, and pleasant environment in our group fitness areas.

6. Stay current on fitness concepts and ideas

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of one year of experience actively leading successful group exercise classes
  2. Current nationally accredited group exercise certification (e.g. AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NETA) if necessary
  3. Instructors teaching licensed/branded formats (e.g. Zumba, Yoga, Spinning) must also be trained and licensed to teach those specific formats
  4. Ability to work well with diverse group members, guests, and staff
  5. General knowledge of the Edwardsville YMCA and its mission
  6. CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of the community, social, and economic segments of the community.
  8. Excellent judgment and decision-making skills

? Work will be performed indoors and possibly outdoors

? Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.

? Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform position functions and to supervise program activities.

? Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously

? Must be able to handle stress and tension in a positive manner
