Are you a carer who wants to take your skills further?
Dovidas Enhanced Home Support Service helps people with spinal cord injuries and complex physical needs to live at home rather than in hospital or nursing homes. As a Home Healthcare Assistant on this team, you work with the same clients each week, get to know them well, and give the skilled support that makes life at home possible for them.
You dont need to be a specialist to start. We will train you, step by step, until you are.
What we offer you
14.6518 per hour, with a premium rate for Sunday work
Full-time or part-time hours shifts are usually split across the day, for example a morning call and an evening call with the same client
You will usually work in a pair with another carer you are not on your own
Full paid training, step by step online learning, then face-to-face workshops, then training with your client
A registered nurse trains you for each clinical task, watches you do it, and signs you off before you do it on your own
You will never be asked to do a task you have not been trained and signed off for
Real opportunities to build advanced skills and progress into senior roles
A respectful, supportive team and work that genuinely changes lives
What you will do
Every client has a clear care plan, and your work follows it. Depending on the client, this can include:
Personal care washing, dressing and grooming always with dignity and respect
Neurogenic bowel care and catheter care, including catheter flushing, once you are trained and signed off
Giving medications, once you are trained and signed off
Supporting clients to eat and drink well by mouth, or through a PEG tube where needed
Checking skin and helping clients change position to prevent pressure sores
Moving and handling, including hoists and other specialist equipment
Supporting daily routines, meaningful activities and exercise programmes
Writing clear notes on the care you give
Letting the nurse or office know if you notice any change in a clients condition
What you need
Some experience in care work in homecare, a nursing home, a hospital or a similar setting
QQI Level 5 in Healthcare is an advantage, but not essential we will support you to gain it
A calm, kind and reliable approach, and comfort working with complex needs
The ability to follow a care plan and write clear, simple notes in English
The fitness to manage the physical side of the role
Why this work matters
Too many people with spinal cord injuries spend months in hospital and nursing homes simply because there are not enough trained carers near their home. This service exists to change that and as part of this team, so do you.
We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to providing reasonable accommodation throughout the recruitment and selection process. If you require any adjustments, please let us know and we will work with you to support your application.
