About This Position
Northwest Equipment Sales, a Heavy-Duty Truck & Trailer Dealership (Mack, Volvo, Kalmar Ottawa, and Cummins) is seeking to hire a Full-Time Rental & Lease Manager for its facility in Boise, Idaho. Must have good communication skills. Wages are $50,000 - $60,000 plus commissions. Experience in Heavy Duty Business and CDL is a plus. Travel to other locations is required once a quarter.

SUMMARY
Oversees the dealership leasing & rental operation, prepares vehicles for lease and rental, and develops and implements lease and rental plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· Satisfies the transportation needs of new-vehicle purchasers.
· Approaches, greets, and offers assistance or direction to any customer who enters the dealership showroom or sales lot.
· Assists customers in selecting a vehicle by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses.
· Explains fully product performance, application, and benefits to prospects.
· Describes all optional equipment available for customer purchase.
· Offers test drives to all prospects. Follows dealership procedure to obtain proper identification from customer prior to test drive.
· Utilizes dealership sales control and follow-up system.
· Exhibits high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
· Knows and understands the federal, state, and local laws which govern retail sales.
· Establishes personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity, and devises a strategy to meet those goals.
· Attends product and sales training courses as requested by sales manager.
· Keeps abreast of new products, features, accessories, etc., and their benefits to customers.
· Knows and understands equity and values, and is able to explain depreciation to the customer.
· Ensures that the sales manager has an opportunity to meet each customer.
· Turns 100 percent of closed deals to finance and insurance manager, along with properly completed paperwork (insurance information, trade title, etc.).
· Writes complete sales orders and process paperwork in accordance with established dealership policies.
· Prepares sold vehicles for customer delivery prior to customer arrival.
· Delivers vehicles to customers, ensuring that the customer understands the vehicle's operating features, warranty, and paperwork.
· Introduces customers to service department personnel to emphasize to them the quality and efficiency of service repairs and maintenance available in the dealership's service department.
· Schedules first service appointment.
· Follows up on all post delivery items, tag/title work, “we-owes”, and special requests to be sure that all customer expectations are met.
· Maintains an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to customer satisfaction.
· Maintains a prospect development system.
· Reviews and analyzes actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.
· Attends sales meetings.
· Maintains professional appearance.
· Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements:Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation, Fleet Management, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of experience in:
- Commercial truck rental and leasing, or
- Fleet management, or
- Truck dealership operations with leasing/rental exposure
- Supervisory or management experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with commercial customers (fleet, owner-operators, corporate accounts)
- Strong understanding of:
- Class 6–8 truck specifications and applications
- Preventive maintenance standards and DOT compliance basics
- Leasing structures (short-term, long-term, full-service leases)
- Rental agreements, damage recovery, mileage billing, and usage charges
- Familiarity with:
- Fleet utilization metrics
- Asset lifecycle management
- Residual values and depreciation concepts
- Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations impacting rental/lease vehicles
- Excellent customer relationship management and negotiation skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Proficient in:
- Dealer Management Systems (DMS)
- Fleet or rental management software
- Microsoft Office (Excel proficiency required)
- Financial and analytical skills:
- Budgeting and forecasting
- P&L responsibility
- Pricing analysis and profitability tracking
- Ability to prioritize safety, compliance, and uptime
- Ability to lead and develop rental/lease staff, dispatchers, or coordinators
- Experience coordinating with:
- Service department
- Sales department
- Parts department
- Ability to enforce policies and procedures consistently
- Strong decision-making skills in fast-paced operational environments
- Develop and maintain relationships with key commercial accounts
- Identify and pursue new rental and leasing opportunities
- Coordinate truck availability, turn-ins, extensions, and replacements
- Negotiate lease terms and resolve customer issues professionally
- Maintain high customer satisfaction and retention rates
- Oversee daily rental and lease operations
- Ensure fleet readiness, cleanliness, and compliance
- Monitor vehicle utilization, downtime, and maintenance schedules
- Manage damage claims, insurance coordination, and vehicle inspections
- Ensure accurate billing, contracts, and documentation
- Ability to work in a dealership and shop environment
- Occasional lifting, bending, or walking on shop floors and yards
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or ability to obtain
- Flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings or extended hours
- CDL Class A or B
- Experience with national leasing providers (PacLease, Idealease, Penske, Ryder, etc.)
- Experience managing both rental and lease portfolios
- Familiarity with used truck remarketing
