About This Position

The position of Cook is responsible for the preparation of three meals and snacks per day for the residents of a Juvenile Correctional Facility. Maintain cleanliness and complies with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage by following Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and other sanitation principles in food handling and equipment use. Prepares, cooks, bakes, and serves a wide variety of foods such as vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, breads, salads, and cereals in large quantities according to specified recipes and NSLP (National School Lunch Program) compliant menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, and numbers of portions to be served through the use of cafeteria equipment and cooking/baking processes. Assists in ordering and receiving of all food service items. Assists in inspections and nutrition programs, maintaining daily and weekly logs in accordance with policy and procedures. Maintain strict adherence to all food safety regulations for proper handling and storage of food. Communicates any maintenance and upkeep issues to supervisor relating to all kitchen equipment. This position will have limited daily contact with the residents of the juvenile facility in which this position works. This position will ensure the timely deliverance of meals to ensure the resident population is served. Scheduling will be a priority. Will also perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Training: Ability to pass a written test at the eighth grade level.
Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in large-scale food preparation and serving.
Special Requirements: Applicant must furnish an approved food handler's certificate within seven days after appointment.
