Intern-Enterprise Applications

Overview

Summary
OraSure Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious Enterprise Applications Intern to support our IT Enterprise Applications team. This position is ideal for a current student or recent graduate interested in gaining real-world experience with enterprise data systems, SQL Server, and operational application support.

The role will focus on SQL Server development and administration support, data quality investigation, reporting, and cleanup of legacy technical debt. The intern will work closely with business and functional stakeholders, along with IT staff. This position is best suited for someone who enjoys problem solving, logical thinking, and working independently. On-site presence is required.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities

SQL Server Development Support

  • Assist with development and maintenance of SQL Server queries, views, and stored procedures
  • Support technical debt cleanup including identifying and removing unused database objects

SQL Server Administration

  • Assist with SQL Server security administration and cleanup activities
  • Support transaction log monitoring and basic maintenance tasks

Operational Support

  • Generate standard and ad-hoc reports
  • Assist with data quality investigations and corrective actions
  • Support data transfer failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Assist with Power BI Gateway administration and monitoring
Requirements and Qualifications

Requirements:

Qualifications

Foundational understanding of relational databases and SQL concepts. Coursework or hands-on experience with SQL queries, joins, and basic database structures. Strong logical and analytical skills, typically demonstrated through Computer Science, Mathematics, or related coursework. Interest in enterprise systems, data quality, and operational reliability. Familiarity with AI-assisted tools such as Claude and Copilot is a plus.

Education / Experience

Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Data Analytics, or a related field. Academic, project-based, or internship experience involving databases or reporting is acceptable. Prior professional experience is not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be capable of working in an office environment.
  • Must be capable of giving and following written and oral directions.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This is an on-site only position (no remote work). Individual is required to transport themselves to and from work daily.

REPORTING STRUCTURE / RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is supervised by the Director of Enterprise Applications in the Information Technology department and works closely with a Business Data Analyst, a Database Developer and other technical and functional staff. Please refer to the current Organization Chart.
