Description:

The Milk Accountant is responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly dairy accounting tasks and activities. The accountant is also expected to make recommendations to the Controller for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position must meet tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and financial reporting.

Responsible for processing milk receipts and calculating payments based on components and volume

  • Work independently to support farmer owner questions related to monthly milk payments, assignments, and advances
  • Assist leadership, in support of company objectives, in developing efficiencies in member relation support through commonly asked questions and standardized report development
  • Owns timely entry and balancing of daily receipts of fluid milk
  • Assemble daily milk receipts and usage to create producer lab cards
  • Verify accuracy of all tickets from milk haulers. Calculate and pay haulers for delivered milk
  • Review lab results to verify the correct import of milk components. Help determine and enter any missing data, if necessary
  • Responsible to set up and maintain member files, make appropriate changes if membership structure or name changes, and verify that business names of the members are kept active with the State
  • Leads and provides general accounting support on milk receipts, related, and provide reporting and analysis as needed
  • Prepare monthly pool reports as required by the Federal Order Milk Market Administrator to include detailed backups for all
  • Code and enter outside milk purchases and sales
  • Support monthly Market Administrator reporting
  • Responsible to prepare and distribute monthly milk checks
  • Verify and issue 1099 forms related to milk payments
  • Continuously drive efficiency in process for member payments and Market Administrator reporting
  • Prepare and post journal entries for month end close
  • Assist management with special projects
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Utilize a computer with strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Also use MPS (Milk Procurement System) software to calculate milk.
  • Act as a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company
  • Work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS in Accounting
  • 3 - 5 years of professional experience
  • Must have excellent numerical skills
  • Must be PC proficient and have experience with large, automated accounting systems.
  • Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Dairy Experience
  • Ability to mold the numbers, data, charts, and tables into an easy-to-understand narrative
  • Adaptability to new technology and software
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
