About the role
We are looking for Urgent Care Medical Assistants who are comfortable working in a fast paced and technology based environment assisting physicians, nurses and other staff with clinical and administrative tasks. Clinical tasks include but are not limited to triaging patients (collecting vitals), collecting medical histories, assisting with procedures and collecting patient specimens for lab orders. Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to answering patient calles, responding to patient messages and scheduling appointments. As an urgent care clinic, we see mostly lower acuity patients but we are a patient centric, modern company focused on providing patients with excellent medical care.
An ideal candidate would have at least one year of medical assisting experience with an understanding of medical terminology, some insurance billing knowledge and is proficient with a computer. A medical assistant certification is preferred but not required. We are looking for someone with availability and flexibility to work weekdays, weekends and some holidays.
What you'll do
- Perform patient care by taking vitals, patient history and triaging
- Assist with procedures such as incision and drainage, lacerations and wound care
- Administer medications via intradermal, intramuscular and subcutaneous routes, carry out ear lavages and run EKGs
- Conduct lab testing such as urinalysis, urine pregnancy test, blood glucose testing, monospot, rapid strep and influenza testing, rapid hiv testing
- Manage the front desk and perform receptionist duties as needed
- Complete training and become certified with the Department of Transportation to perform Urine Drug Screens and Breath Alcohol Tests
- Rotating weekend commitment required
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program (except in those locations(s) permitted by law for exemption with experience, diploma and/or national certification)
- Current BLS certification, willingness to obtain DOT certification
- 1+ years experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- Great communication skills
