Job Description:
Coast of Maine is an organic soil company looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Quality department as a full-time Quality Technician. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing product samples, conducting efficacy testing, and supporting plant trials. This role requires someone who is solutions-focused, able to problem-solve independently, and possesses strong technical knowledge. Clear communication skills and the ability to interpret and document data analytics are essential. The Quality Technician will maintain accurate records of manufactured products and product development trials.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct product inspection, monitoring, and routine testing (e.g., compost, raw materials, final products for moisture, pH, electrical conductivity, bulk density, water holding capacity, etc.).
- Perform bioassays and plant grow trials to assess product performance.
- Enter weekly QC data for all manufacturing locations.
- Calibrate laboratory equipment and ensure proper plant maintenance.
- Support the Environmental team with site inspections and effluent discharge monitoring, especially during extreme weather events.
- Assist the Product Development team with setting up and executing product trials.
- Maintain detailed notes and documentation for record-keeping and regulatory compliance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Agricultural, or Biological Sciences; OR 3-5 years of experience in horticulture industries (e.g., greenhouse/agricultural growing, plant/nursery production, landscaping); OR 3-5 years of laboratory experience, with a preference for environmental testing.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. and work in various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Comfortable working with digital databases and learning new software tools.
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly organized with a can-do attitude and able to problem solve, multi-task and prioritize.
- The ability to analyze data, find meaningful insights, and note important trends.
- Able to communicate effectively and exhibits good team skills and respect the inherent worth of and respect for fellow employees.
- Passion for sustainability and environmental responsibility; gardening experience beneficial.
