About This Position

IS Applications Analyst, Pharmacist (Epic)

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The IS Applications Analyst, Pharmacist (Epic) is responsible for providing ongoing complex system support, administration, maintenance and upgrades of assigned computer application(s) throughout the health system. Work involves the design and build of complex workflows and functionality. Provides resolution to difficult application issues and functionality needs of users. Reports to departmental leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Possesses broad knowledge within application area.
    • Designs the applications solutions necessary to enable the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care and business operations.
    • Leads project level work efforts, appropriately coordinating the implementation of solutions and functionality.
    • Participates in cross functional projects and can provide design information crossing applications.
    • Works collaboratively with department management or representatives and vendors to ensure utilization of the application meets business needs and is aligned with goals and objectives.
    • Independently resolves work problems.
    • Analyzes user needs and establishes procedures for modifying systems.
    • Develops and delivers documentation on software application(s).
    • Ensures the timely communication of work status and identifies application, process and quality improvement opportunities.
    • Effectively and accurately documents the analysis, design, coding, testing and conversion processes of assigned application(s).
    • Promotes and adheres to departmental and organizational information systems security policies, standards and procedures.
    • Effectively and timely communicates application updates and system modifications to pertinent staff across the organization.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Required Licenses and/or Certifications
      • Must possess a Virginia Pharmacy License or be eligible for licensure within six months of hire.
      • Epic Certification training should be attended at the first available class, and certification/accreditation in the applicable module(s) must be current or obtained within 30 calendar days of completing training.
    • Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
      • Applicable Epic Certification (ex: Willow Inpatient, Willow Ambulatory, Beacon) preferred.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Required Education and Experience
      • Graduate of an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy with a B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree
      • 2+ years of health-system pharmacy experience (inpatient, ambulatory, or combination) OR completion of American Society of Hospital Pharmacist (ASHP)-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency.
    • Preferred Education and Experience
      • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program.
      • 4+years of health-system pharmacy experience (inpatient, ambulatory, or combination) OR completion of American Society of Hospital Pharmacist (ASHP)-accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency.
      • Previous healthcare information systems project / implementation experience preferred.
      • Previous Epic experience in the training, build, and/or support of the Epic systems electronic health record suite.
    • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Demonstrates an excellent comprehension of a hospital, clinic, and pharmacy environments.
      • Understand the integration of applications and their impact on business processes and operations.
      • Knowledge of physician practice/healthcare professional services, billing requirements, hospital administration and/or processes.
      • Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other professional staff when discussing drugs and drug related problems.
      • Ability to work at a high technical level on all phases of application systems analysis, workflow analysis, build, design, testing, interface knowledge and programming activities.
      • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and presentation skills.
      • Possesses excellent organizational, written and verbal skills.
      • Highly self-motivated and flexible while able to accept direction with the completion of tasks.
      • Able to plan and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet required deadlines.
      • Strong project management skills.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
