About This Position
Title: Recruiter
Reports to: Director/Manager of Human Resources
Summary/Objective To support hiring initiatives within the public transportation sector. This role will focus on attracting, screening, and hiring top talent for a variety of transit-related positions, including operators, mechanics, safety professionals, and administrative staff. The ideal candidate has experience recruiting in regulated, safety-sensitive environments such as public transit agencies, transportation companies, or related infrastructure sectors.
Essential Functions
- Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs across operations, maintenance, safety, and administrative departments.
- Develop and execute recruitment strategies tailored to transit roles, including bus operators, dispatchers, maintenance technicians, and leadership positions.
- Manage full-cycle recruiting: sourcing, screening, interviewing, offer negotiation, and onboarding coordination.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FTA, and other regulatory requirements for safety-sensitive positions.
- Build and maintain talent pipelines for high-volume and hard-to-fill roles.
- Coordinate and participate in job fairs, community outreach events, and workforce development initiatives.
- Collaborate with training departments to align hiring with certification and licensing requirements (e.g., CDL).
- Maintain accurate applicant tracking and reporting metrics (time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, diversity metrics, etc.).
- Provide guidance to hiring managers on interview techniques, compensation trends, and labor market conditions.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position may require occasional travel to transit facilities or community events / recruitment events. The Recruiter must be comfortable working in both office and operational environments.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position is Monday through Friday, with hours to be determined. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of recruiting experience, preferably in transportation, logistics, manufacturing, or other safety-sensitive industries.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage high-volume recruitment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and HRIS platforms.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge of transit industry roles and workforce challenges.
- Familiarity with DOT, FTA, and other regulatory requirements for safety-sensitive positions.
- Experience recruiting for unionized environments is a plus.
- Working Knowledge of Trapeze and Sage programs.
