Position Description:
A Diesel Mechanic, or Diesel Service Technician, inspects, diagnoses and repairs diesel-powered vehicles and machines, like trucks, forklifts and trailers. Their main duties include running diagnostic tests on vehicles, replacing the vehicles’ engine, transmission, steering mechanism or braking system and test driving the vehicle to determine if they properly fixed the maintenance issue. This position will maintain and repair heavy construction, automotive, mechanical, and machinery.
Job Responsibilities:1. Diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment failures.
2. Provide repair and maintenance to diesel and gasoline engines.
3. Adjust and repair ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and steering systems. Maintain and repair chassis, frames, and bodies. Work with hoisting and jacking equipment, power tools, measuring instruments, gauges, and meters.
4. Maintain and repair tires, batteries, brakes, and valves.
5. Perform shop management functions such as maintenance scheduling and spare parts inventory control, making estimates of material, labor, and equipment requirements.
6. Maintain a safe and clean work area.
7. Must Have basic computer proficiency and good verbal and written communication skills.
8. Must have good organizational skills, meet strict deadlines, and document issues and procedures.
9. Must be able to work unsupervised.
10. Prefer experience with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Cat, John Deere, and other various brands.
11. Maintenance & Repair and Troubleshooting abilities.
12. Mechanical aptitude with required knowledge of: Diesel engines- Transmissions- Electrical systems- Hydraulic systems.
13. Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues
14. Repairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines and other associated parts
15. Conducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown
16. Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance
17. Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment and brake checks
18. Proficiency with computerized diagnostic equipment.
19. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members
20. Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Engine programming and diagnostic training are preferred.
21. Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
1. 3+ years of service and repair experience with heavy construction equipment.
2. Valid Texas Driver License- Must be insurable.
3. The job may involve working in various weather conditions and requires adherence to safety protocols.
4. Must have a strong commitment to job site safety.
5. Diligent in demonstrating safe work practices. Must be able to meet the physical demand of the job.
6. Must be able to work in extreme heat conditions.
7. Must be able to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required by operation.
8. Able to successfully complete all required pre-hire tests and verifications, which may include pre-employment drug testing, reference & criminal background checks and MVR review.
Additional Information:The employee assumes responsibility and is presumed to know the routine work details and performance standards of the job and to perform assigned tasks with direct supervision. Employees may be subject to long hours, weekend and holiday work. Work requires the direction and guidance of lead man, foreman, supervisor and helpers.
