As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Subject Matter Expert - Data Center to join our team and drive our relationships with hyperscale clients to new heights.

Data Center Mechanical Subject Matter Expert:

Salute Mission Critical is currently in search of a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the critical infrastructure supporting the operational needs of our customers.

As a key member of the facility operations team, the Mechanical SME will play a vital role as the expert in mechanical system technical operations. The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems and equipment functionality, taking on responsibilities that include procedure-based mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and overseeing projects.

The Mechanical SME is the foremost technical leader on HVAC and other fluid systems for their site. The ideal candidate for this role is dedicated to lifelong learning, takes ownership of their work, and exemplifies integrity in all that they do,

The Mechanical SME should bring expertise in various technologies, encompassing chiller systems, evaporative cooling, DX cooling, water distribution and treatment, emergency diesel generators, and fire suppression systems. Additionally, a working knowledge of building automation systems and electrical distribution is essential for this role.

Pay: $133,200 (Based on qualifications)

Schedule: Mon-Fri Standard business hours

Location: On-site position in Bristow, TX

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Optimize the reliability and performance of the mechanical systems within our data centers. Serve as an onsite technical resource of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, with an emphasis on practical field operation.
  • Ensure appropriate cross-functional collaboration between the local facility team and applicable local and global teams.
  • Contribute to the mechanical safety program for the site.
  • Enhance the team’s ability to operate, maintain, and repair mechanical systems.
  • Oversee the preparation, execution, and quality control for all work on mechanical systems.
  • Plan resource, author or approve work procedures to cover mechanical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on assessing & mitigating personnel and critical systems and operational risk.
  • Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Oversee mechanical system configurations and component upgrades to ensure system integrity is maintained and that all modifications to existing systems comply with best practices, including change control processes. Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) oversight of construction projects & maintenance activities.
  • Lead the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process for mechanical system events, faults, and issues.
  • Develop and maintain operating procedures (SOP/MOP/EOP). All documentation should be consistent with current client standards.
  • Manage the vendor relationships which provide support for our mechanical systems.
  • Train CFEs on mechanical system fundamentals during their initial qualification process. Provide formal classroom training to Critical Facility Engineers and other cross functional teams on mechanical equipment, systems, procedures, and changes to include mechanical/fire & life safety/industrial water equipment/systems and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience in the mechanical industry in a mission critical environment.
  • A relevant accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, coupled with at least 4 years of relevant mechanical industry experience, will be considered as an alternative to the requirement for 7+ years of mechanical industry experience.
  • Proficient in critical environments with a track record of success.
  • Comprehensive experience performing mechanical operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Extensive experience in understanding mechanical plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings.
  • Ability to interpret schematics and technical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, controls, and fire suppression/alarm systems associated with mission critical environments.
  • Familiarity with brazing, grinding, and refrigerant work. Possesses a working knowledge of trend charts and refrigeration cycles.
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks.
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly.
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors.
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses.
  • Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables.
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety of temperatures inside a facility.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow.
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • Possession of a Trade Certification or state license in Mechanical (HVAC)
  • Universal Section 608 Technician Certification
  • Chiller, CRAH, RTU, DOAS, split system, and diesel generator certifications issued by the OEM.
  • Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) or Certified Mission Critical Operator (CMCO)
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards
  • Familiarity with the International Mechanical Code
  • Background in the data center industry

Compensation & Benefits Disclosure

The base salary range for this role is $133,200.00 annually. This range reflects a good‑faith estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire, based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and market/location. Our comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), gym discount, mental health, Discounted Group Life & AD&D, Discounted Group Short & Long-term Disability, 401(k) retirement matching, PTO/paid holidays, and parental leave. Final compensation will be determined by job‑related factors consistent with applicable law.
