About This Position
Job Summary
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of company vehicles, including mixer trucks, dump trucks, tankers, and support equipment. This role ensures that the fleet remains safe, reliable, and compliant with DOT and company standards to support timely concrete deliveries.

Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and scheduled services on heavy trucks and light-duty vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and brake systems.
• Troubleshoot issues with diesel engines, transmissions, and mixers.
• Conduct welding, fabrication, and minor bodywork repairs when required.
• Assist with roadside or on-site service calls to minimize downtime.
Inspections & Compliance
• Perform DOT-required inspections and maintain compliance records.
• Accurately complete work orders, repair logs, and inspection reports.
• Ensure vehicles meet all safety, emissions, and regulatory requirements.
• Support accident/incident repairs and investigations.
Shop & Equipment Care
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
• Monitor and manage parts, tools, and inventory.
• Assist with the implementation of fleet maintenance programs.
Collaboration & Support
• Communicate well with repair teams, drivers, dispatch, and fleet managers about vehicle issues.
• Provide feedback on recurring problems or trends affecting the fleet.
• Support training of drivers on pre-trip inspections and basic maintenance checks.

Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in truck or heavy equipment maintenance (ready-mix or construction industry a plus).
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy truck systems.
• CDL Class B or A preferred (or ability to obtain).
• Familiarity with diagnostic software and fleet management systems is a plus.
• Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
• Must have own basic hand tools.

Physical & Work Environment
• Ability to lift 75+ lbs and work in physically demanding conditions.
• Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working under vehicles.
• Shop and field environments with exposure to dust, noise, grease, and weather.
• May require night or weekend shifts and being on-call for emergency repairs.
