About the Role:
- Under supervision of physician, performs a variety of clinical responsibilities to assist in the examination and treatment of patients. Performs other functions to support hospital and departmental requirements. Works proactively and in partnership with other staff, contributing to effective operations. Delivers service in conjunction with the hospital's customer service standards and expectations. Position is in a Resident Clinic in a teaching community setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides assistance and preparation prior to and during examination by health care providers.
- Prepares examination/treatment rooms for examinations of patients by properly positioning instruments, equipment and supplies.
- Interviews patient to obtain reasons for visit such as nature of complaint, physical problems, symptoms of illness, etc.
- Prepares patient for examination by performing various routine physical assessments such as vital signs, height, weight, blood pressure, etc.
- Prepares and assists health care provider during examination and procedures.
- Maintains timely monitoring and documentation (tracking) of physician ordered laboratory tests, radiology, ultrasound, etc.
- Performs point of care testing according to departmental protocols and follows OSHA guidelines in obtaining and handling specimens.
- Administers medication by oral, intramuscular or subcutaneous routes under physician order.
- Performs duties and responsibilities to support internal and external compliance standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: HS Diploma/GED preferred, must be graduate of Medical Assistant curriculum
- Experience: Prior medical assistant experience. American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
May be required to stay later as needed to complete patient exams.
