Location: Boone, North Carolina | Part-time | Variable Shifts

As a Food Service Worker at UNC Health Appalachian, you’ll play a vital role in supporting patient care by ensuring every meal is safe, nutritious, and delivered with care. You’ll join a collaborative, mission-driven team that values service, teamwork, and community — all while working in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Boone, North Carolina.

• Compensation: Starting pay begins at $15.00 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.
• Schedule: Variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.

• Assemble, prepare, and deliver timely meals to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in kitchen, prep, and dining areas.
• Follow proper food handling techniques and safety protocols.
• Provide friendly, efficient customer service in every interaction.
• Assist with dishwashing, sanitation, and general cleanup duties.
• Support kitchen operations while adhering to ARHS quality and safety standards.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.

Experience:

• Prior experience in food service or healthcare setting preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

• None required.

Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of food safety regulations and procedures.
• Excellent customer service and teamwork skills.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, and nutrition software).
• Willingness to assist with dishwashing and sanitation as needed.

• Lift, push, pull, or transfer up to and over 50 lbs.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout shifts.
• Exposure to hot surfaces, cleaning agents, and hospital environment risks.
• Variable schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
