Job Description
Position Summary:
This position is accountable to perform patient-related clerical, and direct care activities including assisting, transporting, preparing, and observing patients, to facilitate safe, effective, and confidential patient care. Also provides environmental and technical support including room and equipment set up for procedures, and cleanup of room/equipment after a procedure is completed. Additionally, the Technologist Assistant supports the values and clinical initiatives of the practice and demonstrates a commitment of quality service to our patients and their families, the community, the physicians, and our associates.
The Technologist Assistant adheres to immunization requirements, policies, and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and/or local regulations and industry standards. The Technologist Assistant demonstrates commitment and adherence to the company’s Compliance Program, policies, procedures, and MIM Code of Conduct. Maintains awareness and understanding of individual responsibilities related to the program to include the responsibility to report any known incidents or violations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greets all patients, visitors, family members, physicians, and Associates in a courteous and professional manner. Addresses customers' needs efficiently, effectively, and confidentially.
- Performs appointment confirmation telephone calls to patients to include prep instructions.
- Prepares all procedure rooms for examinations or procedures by obtaining required instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Assists in the creation and maintenance of a safe and orderly environment by requiring and supporting the establishment, maintenance, and education of an effective safety management program.
- Assists during procedures as requested and cleans exam rooms and equipment after procedures to prepare for next patient.
- Prepares patients for procedures per department standards and protocols. Performs technical and limited patient care activities under the direction of a technologist or physician to assist in providing quality care in a timely manner.
- After successfully performing at least 20 IV starts under the supervision of the Imaging Technologist or Radiologist, performs venipuncture, and administers subcutaneous, intramuscular and IV injections as needed.
- Disposes of contaminated waste according to regulatory policies.
- Transports patients safely and effectively per departmental procedure. Exercises caution with regards to oxygen tanks and other medical devices. Recognizes, and effectively resolves, equipment or patient problems and brings to the attention of technologist, physician, or supervisor as appropriate.
- Observes/monitors patients for comfort, safety, and mental and physical status. Alerts technologist, supervisor, or physician of patient problems or concerns. Provides patient confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy.
- Maintains competency as evidenced by initial and annual performance appraisals. Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective departmental operations and quality patient care. Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and understanding of clinical services/activities.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials by reporting inventory depletion and restocking to ensure their continued availability and non-interruption of services. Orders supplies. Maintains appropriate linen levels.
- Reports, records, and files patient and procedural data to accurately document department operations and facilitate timely accurate billing for services.
- Performs other functions as directed to assist and support the Technologist as they focus on imaging patients. This includes, but is not limited to, confirmation calls, screening patients, and paperwork for submission to the Radiologist.
- Remains proficient in the use of the current Information Management systems as needed.
- Utilizes information and communication technologies efficiently and in accordance with HIPAA standards.
- Responsible for taking the required yearly courses through Stericycle’s website.
- If required, reschedule patient appointments to accommodate patient needs.
- Follows appropriate policies and procedures in accordance with HIPAA when communicating to include faxing to referring physician offices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Requires a minimum of 2 years prior medical assistance experience. CMA preferred.
- Ability to work with physicians, staff, and patients in a confidential and efficient manner.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook
- Proven track record of excellent customer service and attention to detail
- Basic office skills such as faxing, copying, filing.
- American Heart Association BLS CPR is required.

8:00am-1:00pm; occasional Saturdays as needed
