Job Description
The Boring Company is revolutionizing urban transportation by building an underground network of tunnels to eliminate soul-crushing traffic.
As a field-based Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design and implement practical mechanical upgrades that help the tunnel boring machines operate safely, reliably, and efficiently in real-world field conditions. This role blends hands-on field engineering with mechanical design work, including developing and integrating components such as sensor brackets, access hardware, valve handles, guards, mounts, fixtures, and other machine-interface hardware.
You will work directly on and around the machine to understand requirements, take measurements, develop concepts, validate fit and function, and support fabrication, installation, and iteration in the field. The focus is on practical execution: identifying what is needed, designing solutions that can be built and installed quickly, integrating them cleanly with existing machine systems, and ensuring the machine continues to perform in demanding operating environments.
