Position Summary
We are seeking an intern who is interested in real estate development. In this position, you will learn about the phases of real estate development in Maui including the entitlement, design, and construction phases to gauge if your future career interests are well aligned. The internship will also focus on best practices of effective communication, organizational skills, and facilitating meetings. This internship is a three-month internship.
Essential Functions
- Learn the real estate development phases and apply this knowledge by saving files on our online storage.
- Learn how to use the County MAPPS system, an online permitting system, and apply for permits.
- Create MAPPS templates for future permits such as SMA Assessment, SMA Minor, Historic District permits, and Historic District Sign permits.
- Learn how to use the State HICRIS, online State Historic Preservation Division permitting system, and apply for 6E permits.
- Learn how to submit and process building permits.
- Help create Standard Operating Procedures for construction management.
- Apply your financial knowledge to prepare project budgets and proformas.
- Learn about effective communication and apply those skills when facilitating meetings.
- Manage a small-scale entitlement project and a small-scale construction project.
Required Education, Experience, and Technical Knowledge
- Must have the legal right to work in the US without employer sponsorship.
- High school degree or equivalent; must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program to receive credit in a related curriculum such as urban planning, architecture, business, finance, civil engineering, or construction management.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Knowledgeable in Arc GIS, MS Project, and Bluebeam
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-directed and able to work without supervision.
- Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas.
