NUCLEAR WEAPONS EFFECTS SPECIALIST - 2 POSITIONS - INTERNAL BARGAINING UNIT MEMBERS ONLY - SVAD in White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico at Southwest Range Services

In addition to performing the normal activities required of a Nuclear Weapons Effects Technician A the Specialist provides technical guidance to lower level technicians. Assumes the role of test conductor when requested and may be responsible for researching, developing, scheduling, prioritizing, estimating, and/or implementing detailed test plans. Required to coordinate task activities and provide technical guidance for government representatives, and customers. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems such as those not typically solved by reference to technical manuals.

Develops detailed test plans and instrumentation support for governmental approval. Specialist must be experienced in all areas of SVAD operations and be able to provide operational and maintenance support for the following test facilities and test systems. Fast Burst Reactor, Gamma Radiation Facility, Linear Accelerator, Electromagnetic Pulse Facilitates, Electromagnetic Radiation Facilities, and Electrostatic Discharge and Lightning Facilities.

Qualification requirements include graduation from a two-year resident course at a technical institution with eight years progressive experience in the specialty field. Applicable Military, Department of Energy or Commercial Training will be considered based on duration and depth of training. Applicant must have been a Nuclear Weapons Effects Technician A for a minimum of one year prior to being eligible for the Nuclear Weapons Effects Specialist position. Must have a Radioactive Material Handler and/or a Non-Ionizing Radiation Certification. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills. May be required to provide technical guidance to lower level technicians. Applicant selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Work will include associated cross-utilization into other jobs as required. May require some overtime and weekend work.
