About This Position
Under the direction of the Operations Superintendent, the Planner/Dispatch performs clerical duties in themaintenancearea; assist with radio dispatchingand telephonecalls, prepares Job Orders andWork Orders, maintaining and updates records. The hours for this position will be 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare MaintenanceOrders forthemaintenanceactivities oftheDepartment of Public Works.
- Compiles and communicates JULIErequests with the appropriateservicegroups.
- Updates and maintains requiredrecords,reports, and documentation fortheDepartment of Public Works.
- Write and/orissuework requests forgeneral building maintenance, collection and distribution system maintenance, road maintenance, and Public Works equipment repairs.
- Update and maintain various reports; work orderlogs – pending/complete,locate referencenumberlog and start date, call-in log, and complaint log.
- Coordinatework activities with other cityagencies/departments.
- Communicatewith citizens concerningJob Orderactivities, includingbut not limited to, sampling,complaints, turn-ons and turn-offs.
- Work closelywith all Department of Public Works Foremen to coordinatedailyworkactivities.
- Answer all incoming calls and maintain a daily log of each.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in business administration or public administration preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years in an office environment or customer service setting.
- Or any equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability to learn the operations of IWorqs and other software programs.
- Ability to organize, instruct and assign Job/Work Orders.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. (i.e. Contact with disgruntled citizens and customers.)
- Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, citizens, and organizations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to multi-task.
Starting rate for this position is $21.84/hour with an excellent benefit package that includes health, dental, vision, & life insurance, paid time off, plus an IMRF pension.
