About the Role:
The Animal Care Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our care. This position involves daily interaction with a variety of animals, providing them with the necessary care, attention, and support they need to thrive. The primary end result of this role is to maintain a clean, safe, and nurturing environment for the animals, while also assisting in their feeding, grooming, and exercise routines. Additionally, the Animal Care Assistant will monitor the animals for any signs of illness or distress, reporting findings to the veterinary staff as needed. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to the overall mission of promoting animal welfare and enhancing the quality of life for all animals in our facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with animals in a professional or volunteer capacity.
- Able to lift 25 pounds, stoop and walk for up to 5 hours
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in animal care or veterinary assistance.
- Knowledge of animal behavior and basic veterinary care.
Responsibilities:
- Feed and provide fresh water to animals according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
- Clean and maintain animal enclosures, ensuring a hygienic and safe environment.
- Assist in the grooming and bathing of animals, as well as administering medications when required.
- Monitor the behavior and health of animals, reporting any concerns to the veterinary team.
- Engage with animals through play and exercise, promoting their physical and mental well-being.
Skills:
The required skills for this position include strong observational abilities to monitor animal health and behavior effectively. Communication skills are essential for reporting findings to veterinary staff and collaborating with team members. Physical stamina is necessary for performing tasks such as cleaning enclosures and engaging in play with animals. Preferred skills, such as knowledge of animal behavior, enhance the ability to provide tailored care and improve the overall experience for the animals. Additionally, any experience with veterinary assistance can be beneficial in administering medications and understanding basic health protocols.
