Job Description
Position Type: Full Time Salary
Work Model: Hybrid or Remote
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Sales Engineer serves as the primary point of contact between customers and internal manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of customer orders from initial quotation through final delivery and encompasses cost estimation, order processing, ERP execution, non-conformance disposition, and ongoing customer communication. The position is ideally suited to those with a strong technical foundation in precision manufacturing, working knowledge of ERP systems, and the ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the end-to-end RFQ process, including generating customer records and deal entries in CRM, soliciting material and special process quotes from suppliers, developing detailed job routers for cost estimation, determining lead times, distributing formal proposals to customers, and maintaining current deal stage status throughout the sales cycle.
- Process incoming customer purchase orders, including updating booking records in CRM, generating and distributing order packages, organizing customer-specific order folders with associated CAD models and engineering drawings, scheduling and hosting manufacturing order review / kick-off meetings with the execution team, logging approvals, and maintaining revision-controlled order packages.
- Execute order entry and release in the ERP system, including releasing material and job requirements to Procurement with precise written specifications for purchase orders, printing job travelers, issuing formal order acknowledgments to customers, and closing deals in CRM.
- Participate in weekly open backlog review meetings, providing strategic delivery guidance, identifying and communicating solutions to scheduling conflicts or capacity issues, and tracking open action items through to resolution.
- Prepare and distribute weekly open order status reports to key customers, providing accurate and timely visibility into production progress and anticipated delivery schedules.
- Serve as a dispositioning authority for non-conforming customer products, including evaluating rework feasibility, directing rework strategy, communicating non-reworkable findings to customers, logging dispositions in the Quality Management System, distributing disposition records to shop personnel, and generating rework or remake job routers with detailed manufacturing and processing instructions as required.
- Respond promptly to all customer inquiries and internal manufacturing questions, coordinating with Engineering and Products business units as needed to provide technically accurate and complete responses.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- This role requires specialized skills that are not typically covered by a single traditional degree program, therefore minimum education requirements beyond High School Diploma or GED have not been established. Individuals currently enrolled in a Technical, Vocational or Manufacturing Engineering Program are encouraged to apply. The desire to learn, grow and either continue or develop a life-long career in the field of advanced manufacturing is required.
- Preference given to applicants with experience in a precision manufacturing environment, ideally in a customer-facing or inside sales/manufacturing engineering capacity.
- Preference given to those with experience in ERP systems (order entry, job routing, material release), CRM platforms (HubSpot or equivalent), and AS9100 quality management systems.
- Familiarity with GD&T, precision machining, special processes, and the interpretation of engineering drawings and CAD models preferred.
ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
- Must have the ability to work as a team player and must be able to work independently without supervision.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
