Responsibilities
State Farm is seeking 2 Lead Software Engineers to join the Claims Communication Product Suite; a team committed to creating communication experiences that inspire confidence and trust in every interaction. Our mission is to empower claims communications that inform people with the right information anytime, anywhere. In this role, you will lead efforts to develop integrated, scalable solutions that prioritize the needs and experiences of our customers and claim handlers. You will collaborate closely across cross-functional teams to build seamless, intuitive communication workflows across multiple channels, including email, chatbots, telephony, text, and push notifications.
You will drive the modernization and simplification of our applications by reducing unnecessary complexity and consolidating legacy systems, while delivering maintainable, high-quality services. Your work will directly support our core values of being customer-centric, people-first, and collaborative, while fostering a unified experience that balances clarity, speed, and empathy.
The ideal candidates are highly technical, possess effective communication skills, and bring hands-on experience with AWS and State Farm's technology ecosystem, with a track record in software delivery, solution design, and deployment — and an innovative mindset.
• Lead technical design and implementation across the Claims Communication Product Suite
• Drive modernization and simplification efforts across many communication systems
• Mentor engineers and influence engineering practices across the team
• Partner with product and business stakeholders to shape solutions and priorities
• Identify cross-system opportunities to reduce complexity and improve reliability
Qualifications
Successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience with the following:
Preferred skills
• Experience working in the insurance and financial sectors
• Demonstrated software engineering experience in at least one of the following languages: Java, TypeScript, Golang and Python
• Hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks, particularly Angular
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, version control, CI/CD practices, and test-driven development
• Experience designing, building, and supporting cloud-native applications on AWS
• Proficiency in full-stack development across both front-end and back-end technologies
• Proven ability to work independently, identify problems, and drive repeatable, scalable solutions
• Strong focus on delivering measurable business value through technology solutions
Additional skills
• Experience with generative AI tooling, such as GitHub Copilot and OpenCode
• Experience with observability platforms and tools, including Dynatrace, CloudWatch, and Splunk
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab CI and container-based build processes
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools and practices, including OpenTofu/Terraform with HCL and Scalr
• Experience designing and building GraphQL APIs
Our Benefits
Because work-life balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!
- Potential starting salary range: $120,000 - $160,000
- Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
- High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
- Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary
