About This Position

About the Role:

The Real Estate Loan Officer plays a critical role in facilitating the financing of residential and commercial properties by evaluating, authorizing, or recommending approval of loan applications. This position requires a deep understanding of lending regulations, real estate markets, and credit risk assessment to ensure sound lending decisions that align with the institution's policies and risk tolerance. The officer will serve as a trusted advisor to members, guiding them through the loan process from application to closing, while maintaining strong relationships with real estate agents, appraisers, and other stakeholders. Success in this role directly impacts the growth and profitability of the lending portfolio by securing quality loans and minimizing defaults.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Loan Officer or in a similar lending role within the banking or credit industry.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate financing, loan underwriting, and credit analysis.
  • Familiarity with federal and state lending regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with loan origination software and financial analysis tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of real estate market trends and property valuation techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain all documentation necessary for mortgage loans to conform to secondary market guidelines, NCUA guidelines, and credit union policy.
  • Maintain knowledge of all compliance aspects of real estate loans, including escrow and other loan servicing functions.
  • Prepare loans for submissions to Real Estate Loan Committee.
  • Work closely with loan processor until completion of file
  • Evaluate loan applications by analyzing creditworthiness, income, assets, and property value to determine loan eligibility.
  • Guide clients through the loan process, explaining terms, conditions, and requirements to ensure transparency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with real estate agents, appraisers, underwriters, and legal teams to facilitate timely loan approvals and closings.
  • Maintain detailed records of loan applications, approvals, and communications in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Develop and maintain a network of clients and referral sources to generate new loan business and expand market presence.
  • Monitor loan portfolios to identify potential risks and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate losses.
  • Stay current with industry trends, lending regulations, and market conditions to provide informed advice and maintain compliance.
