MONELL CHEMICAL SENSES CENTER
The Monell Chemical Senses Center is a world-renowned, non-profit research institute and a global leader dedicated to advancing knowledge about the senses of taste, smell, and related senses and translating its discoveries into real-world advances in policy, practice, and behavior. Monell is located in the heart of Philadelphia’s educational and life sciences hub.
The Monell Chemical Senses Center is seeking a full-time lab manager for Kyle S. Burger’s Neuropsychology of Ingestive Behavior Laboratory (NIBL). The lab studies how the brain and environment influence eating behavior and obesity risk, including how food cues, learning, and metabolism shape motivation and decisions about food. Using brain imaging (fMRI, MEG) and behavioral experiments, our work examines how factors like branding and ultra-processed foods affect the brain and behavior. This role offers hands-on experience in an interdisciplinary research setting spanning neuroscience, nutrition, and psychology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting research assessments and processes (e.g., data collection, including behavior, neuroimaging, peripheral physiology), recruiting participants, data tracking, performing data quality control, and updating IRB, protocols, as needed.
- Provide lab and project administrative support, including purchasing, organizing and scheduling team meetings, managing project-related communications, and assisting with documentation.
- Opportunities to contribute intellectually (e.g., data analysis, abstracts, and manuscripts) may be available depending on available time and performance.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: B.A. or B.S. in a psychology, nutrition, sociology, STEM or relevant field
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in laboratory performing research. Human research is preferable, though not a requirement. Comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-study environment.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively across teams.
- Organization: Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. troubleshoot independently
- Teamwork: Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Mac OS, MS Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Desirable: Experience with basic computer coding, REDCap, R, python, behavioral or neuroimaging assessments are preferable though not required.
