Title: Director, eCommerce
Reports to: Head of Ecommerce
Office Location: New York, NY (4 days a week in Office)
About the role:
The Director of eCommerce will own the overall eCommerce strategy and execution, with primary responsibility for the Shopify DTC business, website performance, customer acquisition, retention, merchandising, conversion optimization, and digital growth initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong experience managing Shopify stores for beauty or consumer brands, understands the full customer journey, and can balance strategic planning with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
eCommerce Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Own the eCommerce P&L and drive revenue growth, profitability, and customer lifetime value.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term digital growth strategies aligned with company goals.
- Identify opportunities to increase traffic, conversion rate, average order value, and repeat purchase behavior.
- Build annual, quarterly, and monthly business plans with clear KPIs.
Shopify Store Ownership
- Lead all aspects of the Shopify storefront including site merchandising, navigation, promotions, product launches, and user experience.
- Manage site updates, landing pages, collection pages, and promotional calendars.
- Optimize mobile and desktop performance to maximize conversion.
- Oversee integrations, apps, and third-party tools to improve efficiency and customer experience.
- Ensure site functionality, speed, and seamless checkout performance.
Customer Acquisition & Digital Marketing
- Partner with internal teams or external partners on paid media across Meta, Google, TikTok, affiliate, and influencer channels.
- Improve new customer acquisition efficiency through testing, targeting, and funnel optimization.
- Support campaign planning tied to launches, promotions, and seasonal moments.
- Analyze channel performance and optimize CAC, ROAS, and blended efficiency metrics.
Retention & CRM
- Lead retention strategy including email, SMS, loyalty, subscriptions, and customer re-engagement programs.
- Build lifecycle marketing flows to increase repeat purchase rate and customer lifetime value.
- Partner with CRM teams or vendors to improve segmentation and personalization.
Merchandising & Conversion Optimization
- Own site merchandising strategy to improve discoverability and conversion.
- Execute A/B testing on landing pages, PDPs, checkout flow, offers, and messaging.
- Optimize product detail pages with strong imagery, education, reviews, and cross-sell opportunities.
- Improve average order value through bundles, subscriptions, upsells, and promotional strategies.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track and report on traffic, conversion rate, AOV, retention, revenue, and profitability.
- Build dashboards and KPI reporting for leadership.
- Translate data into actionable recommendations and growth opportunities.
- Monitor customer behavior trends and competitive landscape.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with Brand Marketing, Creative, Operations, Finance, Product Development, and Leadership teams.
- Ensure alignment across launches, inventory planning, and campaign execution.
- Build scalable processes to support rapid growth.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 7+ years of eCommerce experience with strong DTC ownership.
- 3+ years managing Shopify storefronts for beauty, wellness, or consumer brands.
- Proven success scaling revenue for a high-growth digital business.
- Deep understanding of conversion rate optimization, merchandising, retention, and customer acquisition.
- Experience owning eCommerce P&L and digital growth budgets.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to turn insights into action.
- Hands-on mindset with ability to operate strategically and tactically.
Preferred Experience
- Beauty, skincare, cosmetics, haircare, or wellness industry experience strongly preferred.
- Startup or emerging brand experience.
- Experience with Klaviyo, Attentive, Recharge, Gorgias, Triple Whale, GA4, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with subscription models and loyalty programs.
- Experience managing international Shopify expansion is a plus.

The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $220,000 annually based on experience.
