Perform interior and exterior carpentry work for building maintenance, repair, and remodeling
Conduct general maintenance of County facilities
Maintain grounds, including snow and ice removal
Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience in the building trades demonstrating carpentry skills for construction, maintenance, and repair preferred.
Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
Ability to operate equipment and power tools, including: bobcat, forklift, skid steers, hydraulic lifts, snow blowers, table saws, drill presses, floor finishing equipment, push and riding lawn mowers, and trimmers
Ability to work effectively with supervisors, staff, and the public
High integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality

POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance to the buildings and grounds that support the operations of Sawyer County government. The work schedule for this position is to be set by the Maintenance Director. The Employee filling this position will be required to perform maintenance work, perform grounds upkeep, and complete assigned custodial duties on a daily basis. This position will primarily be scheduled to work days, but could be subject to work evening or night shifts and/or holidays based on the County’s needs.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Maintenance Person performs a variety of carpentry, mechanical, and HVAC duties necessary for the upkeep of County-owned buildings and facilities. The person in this position performs carpentry work for interior and exterior building repairs and remodeling. The Maintenance Person provides maintenance to the heating, ventilating, air conditioning, elevator, water and electrical systems in County facilities. The person in this position will be required to perform maintenance work, perform grounds upkeep, and complete assigned custodial duties.
ESSEEENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs building alteration projects to meet the space and work needs of County staff in compliance with building codes and proper standards of workmanship.

Performs maintenance on building interiors and exteriors, including the roofs of buildings, to prevent deterioration.

Services the ventilating, air conditioning, heat, elevator, water and electrical distribution systems for routine maintenance and necessary repairs .

Performs lawn care, landscaping, and snow and ice removal activities.
-
Performs custodial duties.
-
Performs other assigned work.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
A combination of three to five years’ education and/or experience in the building trades which provided the following:

Carpentry skills for exterior and interior building construction, maintenance, repairs and remodeling.

General knowledge of codes and standards relating to building maintenance, fire safety, building standards, plumbing and electrical codes, and elevator safety standards.

Understanding of the mechanical principles, equipment and tools, methods and techniques, and terminology used in the operation, maintenance and repair of the mechanical systems of buildings, air conditioning and refrigeration, elevators and related equipment.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions needed in mechanical and building maintenance work and equipment operation, coupled with alertness and active interest in maintaining safe conditions, procedures and safety standards.

Ability to read and understand complex operating manuals, technical drawings, blueprints and designs, and construction or repair concepts.

General understanding of vehicle and engine repairs and maintenance.

A valid Wisconsin driver’s license is required for this position. The person in this position must be capable of operating equipment and power tools, including but not limited to: bobcat, forklift, skid steers, hydraulic-powered lift, snow blower, table saws, sheet metal, drill press, floor finishing equipment, push and riding lawnmowers, and trimmers. Ability to weld is desired, but not required.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, staff, and the general public. The person in this position has access to government offices and must possess high integrity and maintain confidentiality.

HVAC, electrical, or ASE certification desired but is not a requirement.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Physical abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position include: ability to work on fine detail and read blueprints, mechanical instructions, etc. ability to interact with staff and listen for mechanical sounds; ability to lift up to 100 pounds; ability to perform the following functions for extended periods of time: walk, bend, kneel, reach, stoop and climb, including the ability to work at heights up to 40 feet and to work in small spaces and areas difficult to access; and ability to work outside in all types of weather.
