Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Systems Architect (Shopify) to join our growing eCommerce and technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and guiding end-to-end technical architectures for complex Shopify implementations, supporting high-growth and high-volume eCommerce clients.

You will act as a strategic technical leader, partnering closely with developers, project managers, designers, and client stakeholders to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with architectural oversight, enabling you to influence platform decisions, integrations, and custom development approaches across multiple client projects.

As a key contributor in a fast-paced agency environment, you will help shape best practices, evaluate emerging technologies, and ensure our Shopify solutions are future-ready, maintainable, and aligned with both client goals and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Architecture:

  • Design end-to-end system architectures for Shopify implementations, ensuring scalability, security, and performance across client projects.

Integration Design:

  • Plan and implement seamless integrations between Shopify and third-party systems, including ERPs, CRMs, payment gateways, inventory management tools, and marketing platforms.

Technical Leadership:

  • Guide and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, project managers, and designers, to ensure system architectures align with project goals and client requirements.

Custom Development Oversight:

  • Define the technical framework for custom Shopify apps, themes, and middleware solutions tailored to client needs.

Scalability & Performance:

  • Ensure that system designs can handle large-scale traffic and data processing, particularly for high-volume e-commerce businesses.

Documentation:

  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, data flow processes, and API schemas.

Emerging Trends:

  • Stay updated on Shopify's latest features, app ecosystem, and industry best practices, and incorporate these into project recommendations.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Systems Architect or similar role in an e-commerce or Shopify-focused environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Shopify APIs (REST and GraphQL) and Liquid templating.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of cloud-based architectures and platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proficient in front-end and back-end technologies, such as JavaScript, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, and React.
  • In-depth knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on innovation and scalability.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced agency environment.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Shopify Partner certifications or advanced training.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect).
  • Ensure that system designs can handle large-scale traffic and data processing, particularly for high-volume e-commerce businesses.

The pay range for this role is:
100,000 - 150,000 CAD per year(Vancouver)
