As a Senior Accounting Manager a typical day might include:
- Preparing and delivering timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with analyses and reports for management in accordance with ASPE
- Assisting in the completion of all bank and shareholder reporting and managing Cash and ensures appropriate levels of cash are in the correct accounts
- Ensuring the appropriate split between Operating and Trust cash, ensuring monthly completion of all Trust reconciliations and providing weekly Cash and Trust reporting
- Assisting in the year-end financial statement engagements and responds to requests from external accountants
- Working with auditors to create a clean opinion on Axis’ audited financial statements
- Provides financial analysis as needed for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
- Ensuring appropriate record keeping and documentation, implementing internal control procedures to mitigate risks
- Completing monthly General Ledger reconciliation
- Providing analysis on variances vs. prior month/year and vs. budget and ensuring compliance with appropriate regulatory and provincial/federal government reporting
- Assisting with tax accrual calculations and ensuring appropriate level of controls to safeguard company assets
- Modifying adapting the accounting policy as needed and reviewing and upgrading accounting software and systems
- Collaborating with the HR recruitment team, maintaining, developing, and attracting skilled staff
- Acting as liaison between direct reports, senior management, internal, and external stake holders when issues arise requiring attention and performing staff performance evaluations and makes recommendations as required
- Collaborating with the Director of Finance and other department managers to oversee the development of workflow systems designed to effectively and efficiently manage workload of the team
- Leading the team and provides a work environment that is supportive of the productivity and morale of all staff
- Contributing to a positive team environment by working efficiently, professionally, and in a friendly manner
- Executing and facilitating regular meetings with staff:
- Monitoring and auditing workflows
- Ensuring staff feel supported and heard by department leadership team
- Communicating Axis’ goals and achievements
- Collaborating with staff to monitor Objectives & Key Results (OKRs)
- Providing training and mentorship
- Immediately dealing with staff issues and working towards a timely resolution
- Developing and maintaining high service level standards for the department

Must haves:
- Post Secondary degree – Commerce, Business Administration
- CPA designation
- 5+ years post-designation industry experience
- Management experience, required
- Full cycle accounting experience, required
